Mindfulness Coaching

I found silence.

And there, I listen again
to the sounds
loudest from within.

I listen to the stories
in the melody.

Like a cellist
supporting and accompanying.

I feel the tempos
and the rubatos.

Sometimes we go faster.
Sometimes we slow down.

In the silence, space emerges.

In the pauses,
we stand still together.

We don't need to know
where the music is going.

The passion may sound by itself.

We notice
where it resonates.

We play it together,
and yet we are not the music itself.

Let us together
search for the music.

Coaching Begins with Listening

As a coach, I do not provide treatment or advice.

I listen.

To what you tell me, and also to what may still be difficult to put into words. To the stories, the silences, the doubts and the questions that keep returning.

Together, we explore what is really going on.

I will not tell you what you should do. I am not looking for a quick solution. By taking the time to pause and notice what is there, we create space to look at things from differently.

Through noticing, awareness can grow. And from awareness, the freedom to make new choices can emerge.

People I work for

I coach professionals working in the cultural sector.

Musicians, makers, artists, producers, programmers, managers and other professionals who are driven by commitment and passion.

People who give a lot, feel a strong sense of responsibility, and set high expectations for themselves.

People who keep going because the work matters.

Who am I?

My background as a professional musician, combined with my experience in staff and management roles, gives me a unique perspective.

I know the world of the stage, but also the world behind it.

I know what it is like to be part of an orchestra: to rehearse, to perform, and to be evaluated. But I also know the pressure of planning, responsibility, management, and making sure everything is in the right place at the right time.

I speak the language of both the musician and the organisation.

That shared understanding can help create a sense of safety and connection more quickly.

But my perspective has been shaped by more than my work in music.

My Japanese, American and Dutch background, my experience as a musician and manager, and my own journey towards balance and recovery give me different perspectives through which I listen.

The lens through which I see the world is colourful.

Not to colour in your story for you, but to explore together which colours are already there.

  • “Kumi has a way of guiding that invites discovery.

She doesn’t give you the answers, but creates space for you to find your own. I felt truly heard, and I left each session with more perspective and more space in my mind. Her combination of calm, attention and Japanese perspectives felt very natural and authentic.”

  • “I experienced you as calm, attentive and precise.

Your summaries helped me hear myself more clearly, and through your questions I sometimes arrived at insights I had not yet been able to put into words. Your silences also had an impact: they gave me space to explore for myself. What I take away most is that it is okay to take your time with things, and that pausing does not have to be something big.”
